About

What Is It?

A charity that provides year-round sports training and athletic competition for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, “giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy, and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship.”

Help Needed:

Help with competitions / events by serving as a timer, scorekeeper, escort, or similar position.  Please contact Special Olympics Texas for COVID-related updates. 

Details

Minimum Age to Volunteer

15, to volunteer independently.  Ages 8-14 must have an adult chaperone. (Children aged 7 and younger are welcome to come as spectators with an adult chaperone.)

Time Commitment

Four-hour shifts, one or more days each year

Training Needed

None. The Special Olympics will provide any training needed.

Help Needed

COMPETITION / EVENT VOLUNTEER

Provide assistance and support at a competition or event.  Tasks may include serving as a timer, scorekeeper, escort, or similar position.  Pre-register with the Area 4 (Houston area) office for the event, then fill out the registration paperwork when you arrive to volunteer.  Please be prepared to show a photo ID when registering.

      The web page for the Special Olympics in the Greater Houston area has information about upcoming events and how to volunteer: http://www.sotx.org/area-home?area=2302785 The fall is an especially busy time for competitions but there are some events before then. Thank you for volunteering!
