About

What Is It?

MH-TMC is one of the nation’s busiest Level I trauma centers and the primary teaching hospital for McGovern Medical School at UTHealth.

Help Needed:

The 7–week program allows teen volunteers to assist in various areas of the hospital.  Program currently on hold; please visit the Teen Program website for COVID-related updates.

Details

Minimum Age to Volunteer

15, with a maximum age of 17.

Time Commitment

All teen volunteers must be able to commit to a minimum of 50 hours of service within the seven week program.  The program takes place in June and July.

Training Needed

All accepted Summer Teen volunteers must attend a one-day orientation (9 AM – 4 PM), have a TB test on file, and be able to pay the program fee of $50.  A minimum 3.0 GPA is required.

Help Needed

SUMMER TEEN VOLUNTEER

Program participants serve in various areas of the hospital and “have the opportunity to learn the importance of ethics and confidentiality, professional behavior and appearance, and proper patient interaction – including age-specific competencies, infection control, fire safety, and security.”  Application is normally posted on January 1st; Summer 2021 program is currently on hold.

Examples of past Scout projects

Examples of scout projects benefitting Memoral Hermann Hospital: Donated more than 1,100 DVDs, with 20 individual DVD players, headsets and headset splitters, so multiple people can watch and listen to the movies together, in honor of the scout’s late father; designed and constructed two picnic tables and benches that were installed outside the doctors’ lounge at Memorial Hermann Katy Hospital.
