Time Commitment
Volunteers who want to help on a regular / recurring basis are asked to help out for at least 20 hours during the first 30-45 days. After that, the staff can be flexible regarding schedule adjustments. There are no set shifts.
Suitable for Groups of Volunteers?
Yes. The volunteer page gives more information about group projects.
Training Needed
None; the library will provide a volunteer orientation and training.
Help Needed

COLLECTION ASSISTANT
Help organize, shelve, and maintain books and other materials; help at special events; assist with crafts or storytime; help visitors use the computers; assist with office duties; or other tasks.

ARCHIVE INTERNSHIP
This 3-week internship at the Houston Metropolitan Research Center is for 2-3 high school students, age 16 or older, who will work with the archival collections and in the conservation lab. It is unpaid and takes place in June. More information is here – or email hmrc.ship@houstontx.gov. Please check the website for updates about the 2021 program.
