What Is It?
A nonprofit that is “dedicated to, and working towards, ending cruelty, abuse, and the overpopulation of animals while providing the highest quality of life to those in our care.” Programs include pet adoptions, humane education, cruelty investigations, and a low-cost spay/neuter and wellness clinic.
Collect needed items, such as animal food and treats, grooming items, and cleaning supplies.
Minimum Age to Volunteer
18, but youth under age 18 are invited to collect and donate needed items.
The Houston Humane Society’s current wish list is online. Items that are often needed include:
Puppy Food (dry & canned), Kitten Food (dry & canned), Dog Food (dry & canned), Cat Food (dry & canned), Cat Litter (non-clumping), Feed (horse, pig, poultry, goat), Hay (livestock & Timothy for small mammals), Small Mammal Feed & Bedding, Bird Seed (parrots, parakeets, etc.), Towels (new & used), Hand Sanitizer, Odo Ban, Bleach, Isopropyl Alcohol, Hydrogen Peroxide, Cotton Balls & Q-Tips, Disposable Latex Gloves, First Aid Kits, Tide with Bleach Alternative, Bath Mats, Rugs (small & large), Newspaper, Copy Paper (letter size), Color Copy Paper (pink, blue, yellow, green pastel), AA and AAA Batteries

Examples of past Scout projects
Eagle: Caleb B. (Troop 46) led a team that build several rolling wooden storage units, and added storage containers and handmade dog and cat toys. (2019)
Girl Scout Troop 111039 conducted a food and supplies drive for the shelter animals. (2019)
