HOUSTON HABITAT FOR HUMANITY

HOUSTON HABITAT FOR HUMANITY

About

What Is It?

A nonprofit that, with thousands of sponsors and volunteers, helps build homes for low-income Houstonians.  Future homeowners contribute “sweat equity” and complete home maintenance and financial training to buy homes with zero interest mortgages.

Help Needed:

Assist with home construction or help at ReStore, Habitat’s donation-based retail store.

Details

Minimum Age to Volunteer

16 or older to work on the build site, and at least 18 to use power tools and to participate in roof work.

Time Commitment

Our build schedule is Tuesday through Saturday from 7:30 AM until 2 PM.

Suitable for Groups of Volunteers?

Yes

Training Needed

“While we welcome skilled volunteers, the majority of our volunteers have few construction skills. Many volunteers remain with us on a long-term basis and volunteer regularly in order to build skills. We will train you in all aspects of construction with the hope that you will volunteer in the future, and perhaps share your skills with other volunteers.”

Help Needed

HELP WITH HOME CONSTRUCTION

Volunteers perform a range of tasks, depending on the stage of construction. On the day you volunteer you could be assisting with interior demolition, framing, porch building, installing windows, insulating, tiling, sheetrocking, painting, siding, landscaping, site clean up, or anything else that helps get the house built and ready for occupancy.

HELP AT ReSTORE

The Habitat ReStore is a donation-based retail store at 6161 S Loop E, Houston, TX 77087. Proceeds from sales are used to support Habitat building projects in Houston. Volunteers assist with customer service, store organization, basic furniture repair, and other tasks. Retail or merchandising experience is welcome but not necessary.
