About

What Is It?

A museum that delivers innovative learning opportunities for children birth through 12 years of age and serves more than 1 million children and families annually.

Help Needed:

Discovery Squad volunteers help with exhibits and programs throughout the Museum.  Commitment is a minimum of 75 hours per school year or per summer.  Please contact the museum for COVID-related updates.

Minimum Age to Volunteer

Students aged 14 -17 may participate.

Time Commitment

A minimum of 75 volunteer hours during the school year or during the summer.

Training Needed

Training will be provided.  The Museum seeks teenagers who are energetic, outgoing, and committed. An application (online) is required, including a teacher reference letter and a group interview for eligible applicants.

Help Needed

SUMMER DISCOVERY SQUAD

Help throughout the Museum, providing volunteer support to the Museum’s many activities and programs. Volunteer duties include “providing excellent customer service, having meaningful interaction with children and families, and promoting a passion for learning.”

Summer Discovery Squad members volunteer from Monday through Sunday, including Thursday nights and for special events. Volunteers are asked to commit to a minimum of 75 volunteer hours from Memorial Day (May) to Labor Day (September).

SCHOOL YEAR DISCOVERY SQUAD

Help throughout the Museum, providing volunteer support to the Museum’s many activities and programs. Volunteer duties include “providing excellent customer service, having meaningful interaction with children and families, and promoting a passion for learning.”

During the school year, Discovery Squad members volunteer on Thursday evenings, Saturdays and/or Sundays, as well as during special event days (New Year’s Noon, Spring Break).  Discovery Squad volunteers are asked to commit to a minimum of 75 volunteer hours through the school year.

      Hi Leanna – Please visit https://www.cmhouston.org/volunteers for more information about volunteering at the Children’s Museum. You can still apply to be part of the Summer Discovery Squad program if you’re interested in that. I think you need to have some training and be part of a program instead of just volunteering for a day or two. You can contact them and ask, though. Thanks for helping out!
