About

What Is It?

A non-profit that works to end family violence by advocating for the safety and self-determination of victims, promoting accountability for abusers, and fostering a community response to abuse.

Help Needed:

Assist with office tasks or special events, or help translate for clients.

Details

Minimum Age to Volunteer

14.  Volunteers must be in – or about to enter – high school.

Time Commitment

The office is open from 8 AM to 5 PM, Monday to Friday.  Volunteer time and duration must be scheduled in advance. Typical shifts are 2-3 hours.

Training Needed

All applicants must complete a volunteer application. Volunteers must also sign a confidentiality agreement, agree to a background check, and complete an orientation.

Help Needed

OFFICE SUPPORT

Assist AVDA staff with filing, organization, case management, and other office tasks. Responsibilities could also include conducting intakes over the phone, running errands, moving boxes or files, or assisting the office manager with outreach.

SPECIAL EVENTS

AVDA hosts a variety of community events throughout the year, including its annual Home Safe Home Gala. Volunteers are needed to help with invitation addressing, registration, and other tasks.

TRANSLATION SERVICES

Volunteers who are fluent in Spanish or other languages are needed to help translate for AVDA clients.

    AVDA is such a great organization – they’re really making a difference for women and children affected by domestic violence. When I volunteered, I helped by inputting survey results and collecting donor information, so you can expect to be doing office work.
