
GALVESTON COUNTY FOOD BANK
What Is It?: Galveston County’s major hunger-relief organization, distributing food via pantries, mobile pantries, emergency food, & programs for children and homebound residents.
Help Needed: Sorting donations, packing food bags, giving bags to clients, helping in office, collecting food, making art for clients, and more.
Minimum Age to Volunteer: 11. Volunteers aged 11–14 must serve with an adult. Volunteers aged 15-17 must have parental/guardian approval on the volunteer waiver form. Students must be at least 16 to help in the office.
Help Needed
PACKING OR DISTRIBUTING FOOD
Sorting dry and frozen food, packing food bags, giving pre-packed bags to clients, removing donations from cars, and more.
COLLECTING DONATIONS FOR FOOD BANK
Needs include peanut butter, canned soup or meals like chili or stew, cereal, beans, and hygiene items like shampoo. A wish list and guidelines for holding a food drive for the GCFB are here.
HELPING IN OFFICE
Volunteers who are at least 16 can help in the Food Bank’s office, working on tasks such as filing, data entry, answering phones, and greeting and assisting customers.
