THE HEALTH MUSEUM
What Is It?: A nonprofit, interactive learning center that inspires passion and curiosity about health, the medical sciences, and the human body, attracting more than 2.5 million visitors a year.
Help Needed: Support the Museum staff in various ways, including helping manage summer field trips, conducting floor educational activities for visitors, helping with week-long Summer Discovery Camps, or assisting with day-to-day visitor operations.
Minimum Age to Volunteer: 15 for Summer Youth Volunteers; Summer Discovery Camp volunteers must be 16.
SUMMER YOUTH VOLUNTEERS
“A limited number of students, ages 15 – 17 (by June 1), begin a relationship with the museum by committing to 40 hours of service between June and August. This select number of youth volunteers support the staff in key day-to-day visitor operations, help manage summer field trips, and conduct floor educational activities for our general visitors.” Application is available in mid-March.
SUMMER DISCOVERY CAMP VOLUNTEERS
Students, ages 16 – 18 (by June 1), have the opportunity to support the needs of young campers in camps relating to medicine, forensic science, chemistry, sports, and other topics. Week-long camps run from June through August, Monday through Friday. Camp hours are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Volunteers are encouraged to sign up for more than one week of service. Youth that have successfully completed the required youth volunteer hours in previous summers have priority in the selection process. Application is available in mid-March. This program is full for 2017.
GROUP VOLUNTEER PROJECTS
There are several opportunities a year for groups to help with large mailings, stuff goodie bags, or assist with special events. Service organizations are welcome to inquire about these opportunities by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
